Sheffield has a buzz about it that all students fall in love with very quickly. The bars and restaurants situated around the city centre create an atmosphere to compete with other student cities such as Brighton, London, Manchester etc.
In addition to the great bars, pubs, nightlife and shopping that the city has to offer, you will also find green spaces in abundance. Wherever you are, there will be a green space not far away.
The Peace Gardens in the city centre offers a square of green space with fountains in front of the city’s Town Hall and is a major venue for lots of outdoor activities that take place in the city throughout the summer months. The adjacent, Winter Garden is a beautiful indoor greenhouse, housing more than 2,000 plant species which have been collected from around the world.
If you want to take a trip out of the city, then you don’t have far to travel to some amazing scenery and walking locations across the Peal District, including Mam Tor and the Edale Valley.
Sheffield is a city that is truly bursting with arts and culture. With a thriving arts scene, there is always a show or event taking place at one of the many theatres around the city, including the Lyceum, the Studio and the Crucible theatres, all situated in the city centre.
If art is your preference, then choose from the Millennium Gallery for contemporary art and design, Bloc Projects for emerging artists, and the free-to-enter Sheffield Institute of Arts Gallery at Sheffield Hallam University. In addition to these there are also various pop-up events happening throughout the year, so be sure to keep a look out for these.
And of course, we cannot forget the great music scene of Sheffield, which is home to the likes of the Arctic Monkeys and Pulp –maybe you can catch the latter on their recently announced forthcoming reunion tour, they are sure to be playing a hometown venue!
The city offers a wide variety of music venues from small gigs to sell-out arena concerts. A popular gig venue is the Leadmill, which was founded in 1980, which also hosts comedy and drag shows. For the larger events, there’s the 02Academy, which is just an 11-minute walk from the Steelworks Student Accommodation on Rockingham Street.
In fact, all these central locations are situated just a short walk from the Steelworks apartments, which is the perfect location for students arriving in a city they do not know with the comforts of having a home from home.
